That when i was doing research on tipu sultan in alahabad in since 1928 some officials of the students union of anglo bengali college came to me and invited me to inaugurate his history association these people came to me straight from college he also had course books in his hands.coincedentally i caught sight of his history book.when i opened the chapter on tipu sultan the sentence that surprised me the most was this.

(3000 BRAHMINS COMMITTED SUICIDE BECAUSE TIPU SULTAN WANTED TO FORCEFULLY CONVERT THEM IN TO MUSLIMS)

The author of this book was dr.hari prashad shastri at kolkata university .i immediately wrote to or shastri thaton what basis and with what referance he has written the above sentence regarding tipu sultan .after writing several letters he got the reply that he had received this incident from the mysore gazetteer.the mysor gazetteer could not be received neither in alahabad nor in the imperial library in kolkata then i wrote to sir brijender nath seal the then vicechancellor of mysore university.about what dr.shasthri had said give information about it he forwarded my letters to professor mr.katayya who was then preparing the new edition of mysore gazetteer .professor mr.katayya wrote to me that there is no incident of suicide of 3000 brahmins anywhere in the mysore gazetteer that no such incident has happened at all .

He informed me that tipu sultan,s prime minister was a brahmin named pauni and his general was also a brahmin krishna rao.he sent me a list of 156 temples to which tipu sultan used to give annual grants. he also sent photocopies of 30 letters of tipu sultan which he had written to jagadguru shankara charya of sringeri math.and with whom the sultan had very close friendly relation .According to the tradition of the kings of mysore .tipu sultan used to visit ranganath,s temple which was in the fort of shri ranganatham before breakfast everyday .in the view of professor mr.katayya .dr shasthri may have taken this incident from the book history of mysore by colonel miles that was the claim of its author that he translated his book the history of tipu sultan from an ancient persian manuscrit.which was in the private library of queen victoria .the investigation revealed that there was no such manu script in the queen,s library and that many things in colonel miles,s book are completely false and concocted.
