CHAPTER (5)AURANGZEB HISTORY

Similarly, when i was the chairman of the alahabad municipality (from since 1948 to 1953) a case of quashing was brought before me this matter was regarding the property related to someshwar nath mahadev temple .after the death of the mahant of the temple, two claimants to that property stood.a claimant field some documents which were going on in his family for a long time .these documents also contained the decrees of emoeror aurangzeb.aurangzeb had given jagir and case grant to this temple.i thought these orders would be fake .i wondered how it could be that aurangzeb ,who is famous for destroying temples could give jagir to a temple saying that this jagir was being given for worship and enjoyment .after all how could aurangzeb associate himself with paganism i was sure these documents were forged, but before making any decision i asked dr.it was considered appropriate to take advice from sir tej bahadur sapru. he was learned in arabic and parsian. i presented the documents in front of him and inquired about his opinion then after studying the documents he said that these decrees of aurangzeb are realand genuine after this he asked his scribe to bring the fry of the jangambari shiva temple in banaras.the case was pending in the allahabad high court for 15 years.the mahant of the jangambari temple also had many decrees of aurangzeb,in which the temple was given jagir these documents presented me a new picture of aurangzeb ,i was astonished on the advice of dr. sapru, i sent a letter to the mahants of various important temples of india requesting then that if they have some decrees of aurangzeb in which those templees have been granted ,they should kindly send their photo-state copies to me give it then one more surprising thing came before me i found copies of aurangzeb,s edicts for the mahakaleshwar temple at ujjain, balaji temple at chitrakoot ,

Umanand  temple at gauhati, jain temple at shatrunjai and other important temples and gurudwaras spread across north india.these farmans were issued between (since 1065)to(1091 ,(since1659)to(1685)these .Although there are some examples of aurangzeb,s liberal attitude towards hindus and their temples, yet it proves that whatever historians have written abouts him is based on bias and this brought out only one views of his picture has gone .india is a vast country ,in which thousands of temples are spread all around. if reserch is done properly ,i am sure that many more such examples will be found which will show aurangzeb,s liberal treatment towards non-muslims.
